What’s for Dinner?

a.k.a. “BLT”

I love bacon, but I limit my intake to once or maybe twice a month.

For all my health conscience friends, use turkey bacon and still enjoy a delicious quick dinner.

Don’t go through the drive-through again. Make a nice family dinner tonight, it doesn’t have to be fancy….just make it with love and bring your family around the table.

Storing His Word in my Heart and in Picture Frames…

God's WordI have never been able to memorize scriptures. My grandfather was a pastor, I have uncle’s that are pastors, and my brother is an amazing evangelist, but even with all these people in my life, the verses still don’t stick.

I realized if I want to memorize God’s word, I will have to submerse myself in it. I’ve started by printing out scriptures and putting them in picture frames. Each week I print out a new one. These scriptures are the same ones I’m teaching the kids so we can learn them together.

You might ask, Bethany why are you so determined to memorize scriptures. Well that is a whole other blog…but for one there is power in the word of God! When the enemy comes against me, I can remind him the promises God has already spoken over me and second, when my friends are struggling, I am able to speak truth into their confusion.

Here are some tips on memorizing Bible verses:
-Pick out a scripture for the week.
-Write it on Post-It notes. Place them on your mirror in your bathroom, on the fridge, in the laundry room or wherever you go throughout the day.
-Write down your scripture on top of your “To-Do List” for the day. This way every time you look at your list, you can look up at the scripture for the week.
-And last and my favorite, print out the scripture to place in a picture frame. Mine sits right beside the stove. That way I can look at it during breakfast time, lunch, and dinner.

Power Verse:
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Psalm 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

2 Corinthians 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Luke 24:45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

What’s for Dinner?

Dinner doesn’t have to be a big production. Sometimes you have to keep it simple because it’s been a busy day or you are working late that night.

As a family we love Mexican food, so every Tuesday is our Taco Tuesday night (It’s a given no one has to ask what we are having that night). For the adults I might switch it up some and make Chicken Quesadillas or like this week I made a Taco Salad.

-Tortilla Shells
-Taco Seasoning for the meat
-Lean Beef or Chicken
-Lettuce
-Tomatoes
-Onions
-Avocado and/or Guacamole
-Shredded Cheese
-Cilantro (if you have it)
-Sour Cream

I used my Tortilla Pan Maker, to make the taco salad shell. To be honest I wasn’t impressed, but I know it’s healthier to bake the shells, than fry them like I would prefer to do 🙂

Do you want to run fast or far?

“When you run alone, you run fast. But when you run together, you run far.”

By working in a gym for many years, I have seen my share of running groups. What I love about these groups is the support they give. It doesn’t matter if you have never ran a day in your life or if you have run ten marathons, the members of that group are there for each other. At 5am people are waiting on you to go on the morning run and if you don’t show up, you’ll get a phone call wanting to know why. They have a common goal, for each member to grow as an athlete. The members are there to give support, encouragement, advise and most of all to make sure you succeed as a runner.

Who’s on your team? Who knows your dreams? Who knows you well enough to glimpse your potential as it emerges? Who can nurture and encourage you for the distance so that you become the person you were meant to be?

We were not designed to walk this life alone. If you don’t have a close group of friends already, I encourage you to get involved and connected.

*Love one another with brotherly affection. Out do one another in showing honor. Romans 12:10

*Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future. Proverbs 19:20

*Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17

*Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. James 5:16

Is your Marriage oiled?

DSC_0801

Let me ask you a question. What will happen if you don’t oil your car? It will eventually break down, right? The same goes for your marriage. Unforgiveness brings isolation, destruction, and dry feelings, that will lead to divorce if not addressed.

I encourage you today friend, be slow to anger and quick to forgive. Remember just how much God has already forgiven you for. (Col. 3:13)

Hats…

I had a refreshing morning just being Bethany! No hats attached (wife, mom, ect…)! Anyone that knows me, knows I don’t like to leave my little ones, but I believe it’s important to get away just for a bit every once in a while. Wearing hats are a beautiful thing, each one helps me to be a better person. They bring happiness and joy into my life, but I must be careful not to lose myself in the midst of all them.20140404-144718.jpg
